Escape from Tarkov: How to fix CPU bottleneck issues (2024)

If you're suspecting that the CPU might be bottlenecking your Escape from Tarkovperformance, start by testing the percentage of the CPU usage via Task manager when inside the game. It is advised to do so during the raid for the most accurate results.

If your CPU usage is surprisingly low, and you think the game could perform better, then your problem is most likely not CPU related. Most well-optimized games will take as much processing power as necessary but not more.

However, if the CPU usage is 100% or close, and you're running a top-tier CPU, then you might have CPU bottleneck issues.

There could be two reasons for this, either some of the settings on your computer might limit the performance of the CPU, or the game is just not optimized greatly for your CPU and you will just have to wait until Battlestate Gamesdedicates some time for optimization.

3rd party application fix - Project Lasso

One of the most shared solutions among the Tarkov community regarding CPU issues is using the 3rd party application calledProject Lasso.The program can be downloaded via the provided link, and once installed, it willallow the user to control the processor's hyperthreading.

Hyperthreading is a CPU feature where a physical microprocessor behaves like more logical, virtual cores, and isenabled by default on most AMD and Intel processors.And Escape from Tarkov does not do run well when hyperthreading as it puts a heavy load on the CPU even for things that shouldn't be handled by the CPU but by GPU.

To change the hyperthreading defaults, start the application and navigate to the Active processes tab, right-click on EscapefromTarkov.exe, and under CPU affinity select Always, and then Disable Hyper-Threading (or SMT for AMD users).

The creators of the application say that this simple fix could increase one's performance from 55% to 65% percent. There is good feedback among the community as many players confirmed this to be true.

For those whose performance didn't improve, there are acouple of other things to try as well.

Set CPU priority to Maximum

Once inside the game, open the Task manager and navigate to the details tab. Find EscapefromTarkov.exe, right-click on it, and set the priority to Realtime.

This will prioritize Tarkov above all other applications. This could tamper with the performance of some background apps, but that shouldn't be a problem if you're solo goal is to improve Tarkov performance.

Note that you willhave to do this every time as Windows resets the priority with application restart.

Disable AMD's Cool'n'quiet

If you're running AMD CPU, a possible fix could be turning off the AMD's cool and quiet option, which is enabled by default by all AMD CPUs.

This is done via BIOS. The option is usually available in the Overclocking section, under CPU features.

Check RAM

There are two things related to RAM memory that could bottleneck your CPU performance. The first of them is using the wrong slots or having an unequal number of RAM kits. Usually, the motherboard has 4 slots to put RAM in.

If you have 2 slots, make sure you put them in the right slots. Contrary to what a person might think, the proper combination is not 1-2, but 1-3 and 2-4. Open your computer and check on which slots are the kits placed, and move them accordingly.

If you have an uneven number of kits, then the performance of the third kit will be below par asRAM kits function better in pairs than solo.

Another possible CPU bottleneck related to RAM could be its speed. Your RAM might not be running at its capacity, and might be running on default base speed which is sometimes significantly lower than the advertised one.

Check if you have an option like XMP in BIOS settings, and make sure it is turned on to use RAM's maximum potential. XMP is safe and will push the RAM speed to its advertised maximum, but not beyond, as XMP is not overclocking, and will it affect your warranty.
